Bigbury-on-Sea is a small village in South Hams area of South Devon which has a lovely beach of sand and some shingle. The surrounding countryside is an area of outstanding natural beauty and is ideal for coastal walks.
Nearby to the village is Burgh Island which can be reached by walking across the sand spit at low tide or in a high trailer pulled by a sea tractor when the tide is in. The Burgh Island Hotel has an interesting history with a number of famous people staying there. These include the Beatles, Edward with Mrs Simpson and it was also rumoured that Churchill met Eisenhower during the war. A recent Agatha Christie (Torquay born) TV series was also filmed there.
Bigbury-on-Sea offers the visitor a low key uncommercialised resort that is within easy reach of Plymouth or Torbay.
