  • "The property is in a fantastic location right in the centre of Dartmouth, yet still on a quiet street with no noise."

It is fully equipped for a comfortable stay and mostly decorated to a high standard. However, there are a few downsides to the property. Firstly, there is no parking which was a bit of an issue in the summer holidays. However, we managed to find a space in the market car park opposite on several occasions. There is also no dishwasher. Washing up for a family of 4 for a week’s stay became a bit of a chore. The sleeping arrangements of 2 double beds in the property were suitable for us with 2 small girls but may not suit everybody. The downstairs kitchen/living area space is also quite compact for a family, but sufficient if you are using the property as a base to explore, rather than spend a lot of time there. There is a small fold out table in the middle of the lounge/kitchen, which was broken on our arrival and we reported (and no-one came to fix) which doubles up as a coffee table/eating space using fold out chairs. However, it is very cramped for a family of 4 to eat a meal. The floor downstairs is also looking a little dirty/tired which is a shame as the rest of the property is decorated to a high standard. Overall, we probably wouldn’t return to the property given the premium price we paid for the summer holidays compared to value for money of other similar properties we have stayed in previously, but we would recommend to others wishing to use it as a base for exploring Dartmouth and South Devon.

  • "We loved our stay here at the Old Villa."

Right in the centre of town and close to the harbour and shops. The key collection process was very easy and very detailed instructions were given prior to checking in. The house was perfect for three adults and a baby and had everything we needed. We cooked ourselves most of the week and the kitchen facilities were excellent. The bedrooms and bathroom were clean and modern and felt like really lovely spaces to be in. Our only minor issue really was the living area. We felt the floor tiles looked very grubby and the rug pretty dirty looking we had to put a blanket down as we weren’t happy with our baby playing on it. There was a huge foldable dining table right in the middle which took up the entire floor space so we moved it to the window which opened it up better. We just thought this area needed a bit more attention as it’s the place you spend most of your time socialising. The property has no parking but we didn’t struggle at all. The market car park is completely free all year round other than 6-9am on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The edges of that car park (not the white bays) are free all year with no restrictions at all and at this time of year we never struggled to get one of these spaces. I’m guessing this may be more difficult in the summer holidays though. I would thoroughly recommend this house and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

  • "A pleasant property in a very good position near the town centre."

Parking in Dartmouth is difficult and limited. There is no parking outside this property. The roadside parking on some nearby streets is available overnight if you choose the right one and can beat the rush. The Old Villa is very compact but with most facilities you would expect. Decor is white throughout with many seaside ornaments. Double bedroom on the first floor is a little compact. The landing is narrow, as mentioned in the advert. The bathroom is modern with a walk-in shower. The wash-hand basin is surprisingly small. The second floor dormer bedroom is spacious as it spans the full width of the property. The stairs to the second floor are very steep and the treads were too narrow for our feet. Some of the stair rails have been boxed-in making it difficult to find handholds when using the stairs. In summary, a very good property but not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

  • "Lovely stay - met our expectations."

Spotlessly clean and obviously recently redecorated. Kitchen well equipped for self catering and amazing shower. No parking with property so that was a bit of an issue but, luckily no restrictions on embankment at this time of year so could park there if a space was available! Highly recommended The Royal Castle Hotel - great food, friendly and atmospheric

The property

Resting in a prime location within South Devon AONB in Dartmouth is The Old Villa, a fabulous three-storey dwelling.

Just paces away from a range of local shops, eateries, pubs, the harbour and the beach, The Old Villa makes the ideal base for a family of four, friends or couples sharing, who are looking to experience a seascape.

Ascend the steps into the property, arriving to the stylish, open-plan living space; here you can unwind after a day of exploration in front of the Smart TV and electric fire, whilst the budding chef of your group whips up delicious meals.

Before heading out to discover your surroundings, locate the sleek shower room for a refresh, returning to catch some rest in either of the king-size bedrooms on offer; you'll find the larger of the two on the second floor.

Awaken to an itinerary brimming with adventure, starting off locally with a bite to eat at Rockfish, serving tasty local produce, or enjoy some British fare at The Cherub Inn, before touring Dartmouth Museum, enjoy a stroll alongside both Dartmouth Harbour and the River Dart, take a walk towards Dartmouth Castle, and a little further towards Compass Cove Beach, before stopping off at Blackpool Sands, a stunning Blue Flag beach adorning clear, turquoise waters.

By car reaching Paignton and its selection of attractions, with firm favourites as Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, visits to Paignton Pier, where you can enjoy a bag of fish and chips whilst overlooking the shoreline, or perhaps discover Clennon Gorge for a nature-filled hike.

Complete your getaway by reaching Totnes Castle, possible to reach with a walk alongside Longmarsh, before returning to your abode for sundowners.

Enjoy all of this at The Old Villa.

The corridor on the first floor is very narrow. The very small decked area is accessed via an extremely narrow door requiring a step up. This will not suit guests of a larger frame or with less mobility.

About the location

DARTMOUTH

Totnes 12 miles.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth. A relaxing location in South Devon.
